Berkshire Family YMCA — Commercial Glass, Storefront & Historical Window Project

Pittsfield, Massachusetts

Martino Glass Company’s relationship with the Berkshire Family YMCA’s Pittsfield, MA Branch goes back decades.

Former Martino Glass owner Tom O’Brien served on the YMCA board and supported the organization by donating both materials and labor over many years. After Tom’s passing, Martino Glass, Raymond James, and the YMCA came together to host The Tom Tournament, raising funds in his memory to support YMCA summer programs.

That longstanding community relationship later continued through one of the YMCA’s most significant building projects.

Commercial Glazing for a Major Pittsfield Renovation

In 2019, the Berkshire Family YMCA began planning a major renovation and expansion of its Pittsfield facility with a focus on expanding childcare, improving existing spaces, and adding new recreational facilities.

The project included renovation of the existing building as well as construction of a new court and track.

Throughout the planning and design phases, Martino Glass provided commercial glazing design assistance, budgeting support, and product recommendations to help the project team evaluate practical glass and storefront solutions.

Historical Windows, Commercial Storefront & Architectural Glass

When construction moved forward in 2021, Allegrone Construction was selected as the general contractor and Martino Glass Company was awarded the project’s historical window, commercial storefront, and glazing packages.

The scope included a combination of specialty and commercial glass work designed to support both the renovation of the existing building and the new construction.

Martino Glass’s work included:

Historical window glazing | Commercial storefront systems | Commercial entrance glazing | Architectural glass | Interior and exterior glazing

Replacement glass | Coordination with the project architect and general contractor | Commercial glass installation for renovated and newly constructed spaces

Preserving Character While Improving Performance

Projects involving older buildings often require a balance between maintaining the character of the original structure and meeting the performance requirements of a modern commercial facility.

The Berkshire Family YMCA project required coordination between historical window work, new commercial glazing systems, and modern building needs.

Martino Glass worked with the design and construction teams to help integrate the glazing package into the broader renovation while preserving the visual character of the existing building where appropriate.
